Born in 1923 in Münster, he has spent most of his life in Oberhausen and beyond detained from here the Ruhr area and the world with the camera.

Holtappel is one of the great chroniclers of the local region. But he has also created thematic series. The Theatre Photography was one of his central themes, as well as the world of department store - more specifically the Karstadt department store - made just such a focus. For Henkel, he worked for many years and made a priority industry record. Especially the people who interested him, even if many of his architectural photographs of the district have now become icons. With a wink, he approached the minor and major strengths and weaknesses of the people, our peculiarities and sometimes fads. Into old age, he has been able to pursue his love of photography. This has earned him numerous exhibitions and awards. The exhibition brings together familiar and lesser known. For the first time the last of the series in November 2013 dead at the crossings and road signs of the Ruhr cities is shown.
