This series of works begins with the haunting dream, the concrete shadow like a dream gradually evolved into abstract symbols. At first, the shadows of a group of children play, and then the figures disappear quietly, and are replaced by abstract symbols like "sticks" or "strings", which twist and change in the dream for a long time. Xiao Hong constructs the series with a large number of stiff and dry lines, as well as random points and surfaces. In disorder, fragmentation and abruptness, he seeks to find a kind of illusion and absurdity, as a hedge against reality. Through these pictures, he wants to tell the viewer that this seemingly absurd existence is also a kind of "reality". Just like the saying "all promising methods, such as fantasy bubble", in the interweaving of illusion and reality, presents a different kind of artistic scenery. The "Visualization" series is not only a visual presentation, but also a profound expression of Xiao Hong's perception of the inner world and reality. It leads us into the field of art full of fantasy and reflection, allowing us to touch the hidden truth and meaning in the seemingly chaotic picture. Portraiture lies at the heart of his work in which he combines images from the Cultural Revolution with scenes from every day life. Whilst they represent the China of today, these depictions are rooted in the past. Xiao was influenced by the historic cave paintings at Dunhuang in Gansu province and his haunting portrayals of over-size faces are covered with fragments of historical and contemporary scenes.
