Mortier, from DE LARREY, Geschiedenis van Engelandt (1730). - Doubled; vertical line in blue crayon across etching; foxed (mostly in upper part). Fine historical print of Willem III setting sail on a military expedition against James II of England, to prevent an alliance of this Roman Catholic king with Louis XIV of France against the Dutch Republic. Met wegvluchten van het Hof ende familie van de k: Iacob de II en koningin van Engeland. etc." Large etching consisting of 11 separate images and background image, each image w. caption below, 48x56,5 cm., publ. by L. Tangena, ±1689. - Three (sm.) marginals tears and both upper corners neatly repaired; sm. tear in right blank margin; sm. foxed spot in image. = Landwehr 152, 2nd state (of 2), with "R. de Hooge fec" in lower right corner; F.M. 2751a. Decorative print, the larger central image showing King James II being welcomed in France by King Louis XIV after his flight from England in the Glorious Revolution, surrounded by images of the hazardous flight. On top is a portrait of James, flanked by belligerent women fighting off the Crown ("No Monarchy") and the Catholic Church ("No Popery").
