Surrealist painting depicting a seaside scene with scallop shells, an egg and an ivory goblet, with label to verso "Henrietta Hoopes Fossils and Shells Oil and Tempera 15th Irene Leache Memorial Exhibit Entry Deadline January 13, 1960". Framed approximately15.125" x 17.125". Unframed approximately 10.125" x 12.125". Provenance: Property from the Estate of Mr. John L. Roper II, Former Owner and CEO of NORSHIPCO (Norfolk Shipbuilding and Drydock Corporation), of Norfolk, Virginia. Mr. Roper collected a number of fine American antiques and art including a noteworthy early American coin collection that sold at auction in 2014. Note: Hoopes' work has been exhibited in numerous respected galleries and shows including the Paris Salon (1934), the California Palace of Legion of Honor (1937) and the Art Institute of Chicago (1941), among others.
