          Emil Hoppe for E Bakalowits & Sohne, Vienna, a Secessionist wine glass, 1906, from service no. 130, multi faceted ogee bowl with intaglio border to the rim, on serpentine knopped stem and splayed 14 sided foot, manufactured by Meyr's Neff, 17.5cm high Note: Born in 1876 in Austria, Hoppe became an architect working under Otto Wagner, before establishing his own practice in 1909. During this time he designed textiles and postcards as well as a single wine service. The largest wine glass from an extensive service of drinking glasses, individual examples appear in museums and collections throughout the world including the British Museum, MAK Vienna and Neue Galerie New York. The chandelier manufacturer and crystal glass retailer E Bakalowits, located in Vienna, commissioned wine services and decorative glass designed by architects including Koloman Moser and Josef Hoffmann, supplying the Imperial court and Bohemian elite of Europe.
