    'F Hopper/91' (lower left), oil on canvas 18 1/4 x 30 1/4 in. (46.5 x 77 cm.) 'Galileo' was an iron screw cargo steamer built by Earle's of Hull in 1881. Designed with an auxiliary brig rig, she was registered at 3060 tons gross (2011 net) and measured 350 1/2 feet in length with a 41 foot beam. Owned by T. Wilson & Sons of Hull who employed her on various routes, she was broken up at Genoa in December 1901 after a relatively short working life.
