Theodore Roosevelt: Rare Large Promotional Poster for t

        Est: $1,200 - $1,800

Theodore Roosevelt: Rare Large Promotional Poster for the 1927 Silent Film The Rough Riders. A significant release in its day, the film was directed by highly respected Victor Fleming, starred Frank Hopper as Theodore Roosevelt, along with Mary Astor and Noah Beery. It was an account of the exploits of the Rough Riders in Cuba during the Spanish American War. Experts in the Heritage Movie Poster Department had never seen this poster before, although the Director remembered seeing the image in the form of a glass magic lantern slide. It depicts-with some license-the historic taking of San Juan Hill, with an instantly recognizable Teddy leading the charge. The complete film is apparently lost, although fragments of the footage are housed at New York's Museum of Modern Art and in the Library of Congress. The poster has been nicely matted and framed, but from what we can see in excellent condition and appears to have been professionally mounted on linen. Approximately 45" x 29" as framed. A super Teddy Roosevelt display item as well as a rare, possibly unique movie poster.
