HELMUT HORN - Fine Art Photographer

It is the peace and the power of Big Sur that surges through every immaculate image, masterfully captured on film by Helmut Horn. One feels his love for the land and water of this special coastline and his profound appreciation for a place where nature is so persuasively eloquent.

Helmut Horn was born in 1940 in Dessau, Germany. Over the years he has lived in Paris, London, Sydney, New York, Hong Kong, and Chicago, and in his role as a successful businessman, has traveled extensively through much of the world.

Horn’s photography became international known in 1980 through his dramatic underwater photography publicized in magazines such as Skin Diver, Stern, Impulse, Departures, Global, and Travel & Leisure. His first book cover for “In Blauen Tiefen” (“In Blue Depths”) went on to become a popular poster and he has had several one-man exhibitions and multi-media events.

Helmut Horn, the environmentalist, is well served by Helmut Horn, the photographer. Over the years, his camera's eye has focused on this microcosm of the universe - from the gathering fury of a storm rising off Point Lobos, to the fiery sunset of a winter solstice at Pfeiffer Beach.

As pollution and urbanization continue to erode our living spaces, these extraordinary moments captured in time remind us of a world that is stunning, splendid and free.

The popularity of Horn’s work derives from crisp, sharp imagery express in dramatically oversized archival prints made from his medium format Hasselblad camera and Zeiss lenses. His compositions represent the never-ending search for beauty, purity, and order.

Helmut Horn is represented exclusively by Gallery Sur in Carmel, California.
