Heron by Higashibara Hosen (Japanese, 1887-1971)

ink and colors on paper, hanging scroll, in an inscribed tomobako box, signed and marked with artist's seal in upper left hand corner. SS: 22.25 x 25.25 in. Hosen was the student of well known Nihonga artist Takeuchi Seiho and often painted birds as subjects following the example of his sensei.
