Verso mit Photographen Stempel. - Die photographische Reihe von Pierre Houcmant (1953-2019) bietet einen Einblick in die Amsterdamer Tattoo Szene der 1970er Jahre. Die Photographien entstanden in dem Studio des Tättowierers Joe Pancho, der sein Studio in Amsterdam von 1943 bis 1976 betrieb. Die Reihe dokumentiert den Prozess von der Zeichnung bis hin zum fertigen Tattoo in Szene. - Minimal kratzspurig und an den Rändern mit leichten Aussilberungen. Rahmen teils leicht verkratzt. Insgesamt in sehr gutem Zustand. 7 original photographs from Joe Pancho's tattoo studio. silver gelatine. Vintages. Mounted on cardboard and framed. -With photographer's stamp on verso. - The photographic series by Pierre Houcmant (1953-2019) offers an insight into the Amsterdam tattoo scene of the 1970s. The photographs were taken in the studio of tattoo artist Joe Pancho, who ran his studio in Amsterdam from 1943 to 1976. The series documents the various stages of the process from the drawing to the finished tattoo in the scene. - Minimally scratched and with slight silvering in the margins. All titled, dated and monogrammed by the artist on verso, individually mounted under a white mat passe-partout. Ed. limited to 13 copies, 1/10 decimal numb. (n. 10). Houcmant (1953-2019) was a Belgian artist and photographer. He studied at the Institut Supérieur des Beaux-Arts Saint-Luc in Liège, where he studied with Hubert Grooteclaes until 1974. In his work he started as a reportage photographer who explored deprived social groups. Afterwards, he develops a whole research project on the body, the forms, the nude, but also the decomposition of the face as shown in his series Interversions. The notion of re/duplication is omnipresent in his work. Houcmant was also a professor at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Liège.

Die vorliegende Mappe ist dem dokumentarischen Frühwerk Houcmants zuzurechnen. Eine Milieustudie, die den Blick in das Studio des bekannten Tättowierers Joe Pancho (d.i. Jozef Vertommen (1927-1986)) im Hafen von Antwerpen eröffnet. Während des Zweiten Weltkrieges hatte Pancho die Kunst des Tättowierens in Kanada erlernt und eröffnete 1943 Antwerpens erstes Studio, das er bis 1976 im Rotlichtbezirk führte. Die Tafeln verso mit Atelierstempel Houcmants. Tafeln handschriftlich nummeriert 1-6, 8-10. - Abzüge teils gering berieben und mit minimalen Aussilberungen. Eindrucksvolle, seltene Aufnahmen.Portfolio with 9 (of 10?) original photographs by P. Houcmant. - Mounted on cardboard in cardboard portfolio with mounted plate (partly browned, bumped and rubbed). - Houcmant studied photography in Liège. The portfolio at hand allows a glance into the studio of the notorious tattoo-artist Joe Pancho, who opened Anver's first studio in the city's redlight-distrcit. All plates verso with artist's stamp. - Photos partly minimally rubbed and with minimal oxidation mottling. Impressive rare photos.
