          Housman (Laurence) The Cloak of Friendship, first edition, with A.L.s. from the author loosely inserted, discussing his sister Clemence's new book, and regretting missing an invitation, presentation inscription from the author with his initials to front free endpaper, endpapers browned, uncut, original decorative cloth, lightly soiled, 1905; and 5 others by Housman, 4to & 8vo (6) ⁂ A good group of Housman books, with an interesting manuscript letter from the author: "I am sorry that circumstances are against my coming on Saturday, not that I should have got any talk with you at all, but the subject and the speaker are both good, and I should have probably joined in the rampage. For I am very gone on the decay of the West, and believe that salvation though it "cometh neither from east and from the west and yet from the south" will come on the breath of an east wind and that in the process much of our western civilization will be blown inside out..." October 19th, 1905.
