Hering (with his ticket to verso of front endpaper), spine in compartments and with various cross-hatched (spine ends), scrolling and filet decorations, covers with wide scrolling Greek key and filet borders with medallion corner-pieces, a few scuffs, rubbed and marked, g.e., 4to (binding 309 x 245mm.), W.         Binding.- Howard (Frederick, Earl of Carlisle) The Father's Revenge, A Tragedy, [one of 25 copies], 4 engraved plates, occasional light marginal foxing, bookplates of Joseph Walter King Eyton and Robert Hayhurst, handsome mid-nineteenth century morocco, gilt, by Hayday, the covers tooled in gilt with a wide border of a single fillet and two double fillets flanking a repeated impression of a large rectangular tool with corners and centre each surrounded by small fleurons, the corner squares with a circle and cross on a studded background, spines gilt in compartments with the cross and circle motif repeated, inner gilt dentelles, g.e., 4to, W. Bulmer & Co., 1800. ⁂ A finely bound copy of this rare work, bound by Hayday for Joseph Eyton.

        Charles Howard, 11th Duke of Norfolk (1746-1815) British politician. Howard was known for actively participating in the Tory party as part of the support to King George III. He succeeded to the title of 11th Duke of Norfolk in 1786 upon the death of his father. He spent a considerable amount of his money rebuilding and refurbishing Arundel Castle after inheriting his title and lands. 7 ¼” x 9 ¼” autograph letter signed, “Norfolk”, April 24, 1803, to Rev. J. Dullaway. “…you will please to proceed in the proper way for the appointment of Mr. Hawker Rouguroux to be Richmond Herald….” The letter is age-toned. Include an engraving.
