Wood and Hughes silver presentation lidded tureen for Pacific Mail Steamship Company, presented to W.C. Stout, Pacific Mail's Panama agent, the tureen of oval form, with a conforming lid having a looped and beaded finial, inscription on lid reads: "Presented to W.C. Stout By the Commanders of the PMSS Co. Steamers Dec. 1853", the piece was probably acquired by PMSS Founder William Aspinwall of NY for this special presentation; 6.5"h x 11"w; total approx. silver weight 40 Troy oz., accompanied by a custom made display box; Provenance: The Stephen J. and Jeremy W.
