A gorgeous ceramic vessel of a classic form, decorated with a floral motif of golden blossoms and a spring green leafy stem over a ground of russet red, olive green, and chocolate brown hues, with the interior walls embellished by chocolate brown and buttercup yellow hues. This lustrous vessel is marked on the base with the Rookwood logo (a back-to-back "R" and "P" surrounded by flames), identifying shape number "922E", "II" indicating the date 1902, and an "IB" (Irene Bishop) artist's mark. A stunning ceramic vase by Rookwood artist Irene Bishop that reflects the Arts and Crafts Movement's admiration for nature-inspired motifs! Size: 2.875" in diameter x 5.7" H (7.3 cm x 14.5 cm) The Rookwood Pottery Company was founded in 1880 by the artist Maria Longworth-Nichols who created a world-renowned ceramic studio in Cincinnati, Ohio that attracted many reputable artists and ceramicists. A native Coloradan, Irene Bishop studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy and the Art Students League and worked at Rookwood from 1900 until 1909. Interestingly, Irene married another Rookwood artist, Edward Hurley, in 1907. Following her years with Rookwood, Irene continued her artistic career as a miniature painter. Vintage Irene Bishop Rookwood Pottery Standard Glaze Hand Painted Dogwood Pitcher. Rookwood Pottery was the first pottery manufacturer headed by a woman. By combining extraordinary attention to detail and innovative design Maria Longworth Nicholas made Rookwood the standard for ceramic pottery manufacturers to aim for. Today antique and vintage Rookwood Pottery can easily command high prices and individual piece can rank alongside the best pottery Europe can produce. Signed I.B with fourteen flames surrounding the Rookwood trademark. Also marked 495 C indicating the shape number and size. Keywords: China, Porcelain, Pottery; Ref: BD1016
