No visible inpaint under UV light. ART SIZE: 5 x 9 inches / 12 x 22 cm FRAME SIZE: 10 x 13 inches / 25 x 33 cm SIGNATURE: lower left PROVENANCE: William Rodman Gallery, Belfast, Ireland (has label on verso) ATTENTION: This lot is located at our Mamaroneck, NY office. NAME VARIANTS: Louis Bosworth Hunt CATEGORY: old antique vintage painting for auction sale online AD: ART WANTED: Consign, Trade In, Cash Offer SKU#: 133320 US SHIPPING: $42 + insurance. BIOGRAPHY: Louis Bosworth Hurt was born in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. He occasionally painted on the Derbyshire moors; however it was the wilderness of the northern Highlands that inspired him. He was famous for his paintings of the Scottish Highlands and his portrayal of highland cattle. He had his own herd of highland cattle but often traveled to Scotland to paint the magnificent backgrounds to his paintings. A prolific painter, Hurt exhibited thirteen paintings from 1881 at the Royal Academy in London and twenty-six at the Royal Society of Artists on Suffolk Street. After the Storm, Glen Dochart, Perthshire is a wonderful example of the artist at the height of his career. The sense of the passing storm is almost tangible in the dramatic sky, the light that breaks through the clouds and the streams now flowing down the hills. The highland cattle which cross the river are on the old drover's road from the Isles to the autumn cattle market in Stirling. The mountain in the center of the composition is Ben More with Coire Chaorach rising up into the mist alongside it.

Louis Bosworth Hurt,  - Floral still life with chrysanthemums;  …

        Est: £400 - £600

Louis Bosworth Hurt,  British 1856-1929-  Floral still life with chrysanthemums;  oil on canvas, signed 'L.B. Hurt' (lower right), 50.2 x 70 cm.  Provenance:  Private Collection, UK.  Note:  The present work is an outlier in Hurt's oeuvre, with the artist better known for his sweeping and dramatic paintings of cattle in a Highland landscape. He was a pupil of George Turner (1841-1910), whose idyllic landscapes of the British countryside very much influenced his own output. He exhibited at the Royal Academy eighteen times between 1881 and 1901.  Although Hurt was not known for his still life paintings, the present work is strikingly similar in technique to Hurt's other paintings, particularly in its lightness and a looseness of brushstrokes which is characteristic of the artist's approach.

CONTACT US SKU#: 117522 US Shipping $42 + insurance.
