Ces deux sculptures en pierre, L’Amour domptant la Force et La Force domptée par l’Amour, sont commencées en 1883 avant d’être inaugurées le 6 avril 1884. Notre impressionnante réduction en bronze remarquablement fondue par Thiébaut est le groupe de gauche en remontant la promenade du jardin montpelliérain, il représente le moment où l’Amour est encore à la lutte avec la Force. Villa Paloma : -Inventaire 1950 ; -Inventaire 1934 Plus qu’à Carpeaux, comme l’indique la mention erronée sur le cartouche, c’est au style du sculpteur originaire de Béziers, Injalbert qu’il faut attribuer ce charmant buste d’enfant aux yeux pétillants et au large sourire. Cette thématique de l’Enfant rieur a en effet occupé l’artiste durant de longues années entre 1875 et 1927. Il l’a décliné à l’envie sous plusieurs formats et en divers matériaux. L’artiste raconte en effet qu’il avait rencontré l’enfant qui a servi de modèle dans la rue à Rome en 1875. Premier Prix de Rome en 1874, il choisit ce sujet pour son envoi obligatoire de « tête d’étude » de 3ème année de l’Académie.

Jean Antoine Injalbert (French, 1845-1933), Amour Aux Colombes patinated bronze, mounted on a green elliptical marble base, signed "Injalbert" to lower right side of plinth column seat, also with foundry stamp for "Siot-Decauville, Paris" to posterior upper plinth edge. 21 x 11 x 12 in. J. A. Injalbert was a pupil of Augustin-Alexandre Dumont. Among his awards are the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1874 and the Grand Prix at the Exposition Universelle of 1889 (and in 1900 was a member of the jury). Injalbert was made an officer of the LÃ©gion d'honneur on the day of the inauguration of the Pont Mirabeau in Paris; and in 1905, he was made a member of the Institut de France; and in 1910 promoted to Commander of the LÃ©gion d'honneur. He was also an influential arts instructor at the AcadÃ©mie Colarossi and the Ãcole des Beaux Arts. He was one of France's greatest sculptors. He worked in many of the great towns and cities of France and examples of his work can be seen in Paris, Pézenas, Reims, Montpellier, Sète etc. The son of a stonemason, Injalbert first served an apprenticeship with an ornamental sculptor, and then entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1866 with a municipal scholarship. His teacher was Augustin-Alexandre Dumont. In 1874 he won the Prix de Rome with a figure of Orpheus, and at the Éxposition of 1889 he won the Grand Prix. His first commission was to create the tympanum for La Chapelle du Bon Pasteur in Béziers. (Additional information) - Filippino Lippi was among the most gifted and accomplished Florentine painters and draftsmen of the second half of the fifteenth century. He was born in ca. 1457, the product of a famous and illicit relationship between the painter Fra Filippo Lippi and the young nun Lucrezia Buti. Trained first by his father, he entered the workshop of Sandro Botticelli in 1472, three years after his fathers death. He went out on his own a few years later, having developed a manner that was deeply imbued with the influence of his two great masters.

A French bronze figure of a running boy early 20th century, cast from a model by Jean-Antoine Injalbert (French, 1845-1933), green-brown patination, the curly headed youth leaning forwards on his left leg, his right leg in the air, his right hand poised to throw a ball, on a naturalistic base, signed Injalbert and stamped RG 88, 'A.G. Bronze Paris' foundry mark to side of base, 13in. (33cm.) high.
