    First Nations / Native American, Canadian Arctic, Quebec, Nunavik, Povungnituk / Puvirnituq, ca. third quarter of the 20th century CE. Signed by Juanisialu Irqumia (1912 to 1977). A remarkable hand-carved soapstone figure of a female Inuit carrying a duck in her right hand and a fish in her left. The fascinating figure hunches forward, exhausted from the hunt. Her expressive visage indicates her fatigue, displaying generously lidded eyes, a broad nose, and a straight mouth, all beneath a centrally parted coiffure. The huge hood of her heavy coat covers her head, pulled by the wind to her left side. Size: 3.125" W x 6.125" H (7.9 cm x 15.6 cm) Provenance: private Littleton, Colorado, USA collection, purchased from Gladys' Gifts, Barrow, Alaska, USA in 1961 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
