Black Joe Jackson (American, 1922-1997) was a self taught African American Folk Artist. Born near Atlanta, GA in 1920 to a poor share-cropper family, Jackson painted on board and used other available materials including house paint to create his art. Jackson was born dyslexic as evidenced by his lettering. He painted what he saw and remembered from his childhood.
