C.R. D'Oyly John Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1906 - d. 1993

Artist C.R. D'oyly John began painting in 1945 after being wounded by a bomb as a serviceman during WW II. C.R. D'oyly John's paintings include landscape scenes of France and Italy, typically created with a palette knife technique that mirrored that of Vincent van Gogh. His skill with blending colors together made it hard to distinguish between the multiple tones of a single paint shade.

After seeing C.R. D'oyly John's paintings hanging in a hotel she was staying at, Princess Elizabeth, presently Queen of England, bought several of his pieces for the Royal Collection. Prints of landscapes that he did during the 50s and 60s are among the most popular prints of C.R. D'oyly John artwork for sale to date. You can view other scenic and detailed oil paintings for sale at auction online to add to your growing collection.
