        After Wilhelm (Augustus John) John (GERMANY, 1813 - 1881) for Royal Vienna Austrian porcelain portrait plate titled "Autumn" depicting two young ladies in a forest scene. Signed "A. John" to lower right. Has ivory and aqua blue rim with gilt accenting and bead work. Has blue bee hive bindenschild mark to bottom with title. Measures approx. 10 3/4" diameter (27.3cm).

John 1839' In gold painted ornament frame Dimensions: 32 x 46 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Southern Germany Picturesque view of several fishermen's houses on a bank; comparable paintings by August Wilhelm John fetch up to over €8,000 on the auction market Bathed in warm golden sunlight two thatched houses are captured in this painting from 1839. They are situated picturesque directly on the shore of a calm body of water on which a plurality of staffage figures can be seen. Hung up fishing nets and sails of boats that can be seen behind the houses, characterize them as fishermen. The warm coloring in tones of brown of the foreground is a nice contrast to the light, cool shades of white and blue of the sky and the water. The painting is signed and dated lower left 'W. John 1839'. The layer of paint shows overall fine craquelure and occasional small touch-ups. There are slight framing traces and several tiny paint losses along the lower edge. The layer of paint is provided with a new varnish. Overall the condition is good. Aside from slight signs of wear the frame bears several cracks in the carved ornaments. The overall impression is good. The painting measures 32 x 46 cm. The framed dimensions are 52 x 66 cm. August Wilhelm John (1813-circa 1848) August William John was born in Templin. He received his education at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, which he attended from 1832 to 1837. The landscape painter Johann Wilhelm Schirmer was there one of his teachers. In 1840 John moved to Berlin and exhibited there his works at numerous Academy exhibitions. Moselle and Rhine landscapes are John's favorite subjects, but also depictions of boats on the beach are to find. (fea) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.

It shows a larger fishing boat and several small rowing boats lying on a beach. The tranquil composition of boats is contrasted by the dynamics of the moving sea and the interesting designed lively diversity of the clouds. The painting is signed and dated lower right 'W. John 1837'. The layer of paint shows overall fine craquelure and occasional mostly small touch-ups. The canvas is relined and the paint layer is provided with a new varnish. The overall condition is good. Aside from slight signs of wear the frame bears several cracks in the carved ornaments. The overall impression is good. The painting measures 29 x 40 cm. Er malte bevorzugt Motive vom Rhein und von der Mosel.
