THIS SATURDAY EVENING POST CARTOONIST COULD HAVE DRAWN THIS TODAY

      Est: $300 - $500

Herbert Johnson (1878-1946) was an American cartoonist who drew political cartoons in the 1930s and also cartoon covers for magazines including Saturday Evening Post. This 11” x 12” cartoon presents a realistic image of John Q. Public, exhausted and rightly frustrated with the newspapers for the bombardment of propaganda, half truth, contradiction and misinformation. In the news we note China and Russia, Debts and World Politics. Too similar to today’s fake news and world conflicts. The cartoon is signed “H.J.” and also has an inscription, May 27, 1937, to fellow cartoonist Morris Weiss which is fully signed “Herbert Johnson”. On the back of the board in pencil, “For The Sat. Eve. Post.”
