Bitting p.247, Cagle 782; Oxford p.83 & Vicaire 465], large 12mo, Printed for M. Cooper, Pater-noster-row; and C. Sympson, at the Bible, Chancery-Lane, 1754. ⁂ Rare first edition under this title. It was originally published in 1753 as The Young Woman's Companion. ESTC records only four copies of this edition (all in America or Canada), and Library Hub adds a copy at Leeds University. Includes carving, pickling, and pastry & confectionery. As with another copy consulted the pagination of the preliminaries is as follows: [2], ii, [1], vi-xiii [i.e xiv, the recto of final f. thus numbered]. Provenance: 'E. Guertz, 1754' (ink inscription to verso of portrait); loosely inserted letter from Sub-Librarian of Brotherton, Leeds to bookseller Mike McKirdy regarding their copy of the work. It is interesting to note that in the preliminaries of their copy the pagination also skips from ii to vi.
