Travel original vintage poster- Australia - The Landing of Captain Cook at Botany Bay in 1770 - Percy Trompf. Published by the Australian National Travel Association. The Australian National Travel Association was formed in 1929 at the onset of the Great Depression by Sir Charles Lloyd Jones (1878-1958), merchant and patron of the arts (who became director of its board of management). Most states had already, or soon had, tourist bureaux though their budgets were insufficient. Prime Minister Stanley Bruce announced the formation of the national organisation on Wednesday 1 May 1929, allocating £100,000, obtained mostly from tourist industries for Australian overseas publicity. Country: Australia. Year: 1935. Artist: Percy Trompf. Size (cm): 48x62.5 (Horizontal). Good condition, cracks and creases, yellowing.

Provenance: Livingston (owner's name in pencil inside front wrapper); Kenyon Starling (bookplate). FIRST SEPARATE EDITION. An abriged version of "A Plated Article," by Charles Dickens [and W. H. Wills], first published in Household Words, April 24, 1852, and written after his visit to the Copeland Pottery Works in Staffordshire. Issued by the pottery firm of Jones, McDuffee & Stratton. According to Eckel this abriged version "was clearly used for advertising propaganda, and, of course, Dickens had not the slightest connection with it." Eckel, p.209; Yale/Gimbel B221.
