          The Night Watchman Pretzel Eater Production Cel and Background with Chuck Jones Autograph (Warner Brothers, 1938). The Merrie Melodies cartoon that launched the career of Chuck Jones! The story involves a kitten "night watchman" who lets the kitchen be overrun with hungry mice, including this pretzel-eater who winds up tied in a knot. The cel is placed over a Warner Brothers studio hand-painted production background. The mouse figure measures approximately 7" x 3", with an overall image area of 11" x 8". Matted and framed with glass for an overall size of 20" x 17.75". The mat has been boldly inscribed, "This is from my first cartoon "The Night-Watchman" -- 1938, Chuck Jones, 1979." Considering Mr. Jones' place in the history of animation, we consider this a very important piece. The paint is in Fine condition.
