Bolton Jones Art for Sale at Auction

Landscape painter, b. 1848 - d. 1927

American-born artist Bolton Jones started his painting career as a Hudson River School painter. Painter Bolton Jones spent time in Brittany, France, in American art colonies, and he studied at Academie Julian in Paris. His work at this time was considered melancholy. He won medals for his artwork at the Paris Exposition (1889), Chicago Columbian Exposition (1893), St. Louis Exposition (1904), and the San Francisco Pan-Pacific Exposition (1915).

Later during his career, landscapes by Jones became brighter, with many spring and summer scenes such as Spring Reflections and Sun Dapples Hillside. Artist Bolton Jones achieved a 60-year exhibition record at the National Academy of Design. Some of his work hangs at Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
