        Thomas Hudson Jones (American, 1892-1969)

        Thomas Hudson Jones (American, 1892-1969), "The Ideal Head", 1921, bronze, on a columnar black marble plinth, overall h. 18", w. 8-1/4", d. 7-1/4". Thomas Hudson Jones, a sculptor of the Ulysses S. Grant medal, was a prolific artist and is best known for the "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier" in Arlington, Virginia. He studied at the Albright Art Gallery School of Art, Buffalo, New York (where he later taught), Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the Museum School of Art, Boston, Massachusetts. Jones was a member of the National Academy of Design and a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome. This sculpture was inspired by his time spent in Europe.
