    Henry Jutsum (1816-1869) River landscape with a fisherman on the bank and cattle grazing signed and dated 'Henry Jutsum / 1855' (lower left) inscribed on an old label 'Painted ....in 1855 for George .... / (Jush?)town House / Ireland' and with the artist's address '174 Edgeware Road' (to the reverse) oil on canvas 31.5 x 52cm Framed 44 x 64cm The painting is executed in oil on a canvas support which has been lined. The canvas tension is stiff and the picture is in plane. The paint layers are stable overall. There are localised areas of overpaint which are well matched to the original. The varnish is clear, even and glossy.

Accompanied by old typed note that reads: Henry Jutsum/London Exhibition Period: 1836-69/Henry Jutsum was a famous London artist who specialized in painting landscape scenes. He exhibited 68 paintings at the Royal Academy; 75 at the British Institution; 19 at the Suffolk Street Gallery; 34 at the New Watercolour Society and 7 in other various exhibitions. Acquired at Antiques by Braford, Natural Bridge Station, VA who purchased in London.
