      Adolf Gustav Jutz (Germany, 1887-1945) Original Mixed Media (Crayob, Grease Pen, Charcoals). Signed with the initials AJ and dated 1927 lower left. Measures 18.75 x 12.5 inches sheet size. Has artist's rubber stamp on accompanying sheet. VG-EX/EX condition. Unframed, loose and not glued or mounted. Provenance: Estate collection of William Greenbaum, Gloucester, Massachusetts, Proprietor of William Greenbaum Fine Prints. If lot is absent of a condition report one may be requested via email. Buyer must view photographs or scans to assist in determining condition and ask further questions if so desired.       Adolf Jutz (born 1887 Freiburg im Breisgau): Sermon on the Mount I, 1921, Lithography Technique: Lithography on Paper Date: 1921 Description: Adolf Jutz draws us here a very impressive depiction of the Sermon on the Mount with Jesus and the believers listening to him, some of them cowering on the ground. The artist has a virtuoso ability to visualise a wide range of emotions in the faces of the listeners, ranging from concentrated attention to contemplation almost reminiscent of grief. The sheet is signed "A. Jutz" in pencil in the top right-hand margin and monogrammed and dated "AJ 21" in the top left-hand corner of the printing plate. The author of our sheet with the Sermon on the Mount scene, Adolf Jutz, studied in Karlsruhe under Ludwig Schmid-Reutte and Walther Conz at the beginning of the 20th century, in Florence in 1909/10 and in Paris at the Académie Ranson under Paul Sérusier and Maurice Denis in 1912/13. During the First World War, he was initially an infantryman, then a war painter from 1915, but also took part in the Munich Secession exhibitions from the same year. In 1925 he became a member of the Association for Original Etchings and in 1928 of the German Society for Christian Art. In 1931 and 1932 he travelled to the Netherlands and Italy. He participated several times in the exhibitions of the Badische Secession and was a member of the board of the Munich Secession from 1933 to 1937. In 1941, he worked as a photo correspondent for the Reich Labour Service in Russia. In 1943, his art was disqualified by the National Socialists as "inferior" and he was banned from exhibiting. Jutz died in 1945 as the result of an accident.       "Hortensie" Öl auf Leinwand. 1929. 66 x 45,5 cm. Oben links mit Pinsel in Rot monogrammiert "AJ" (ligiert) und datiert, verso mit Pinsel in Braun signiert "Adolf Jutz", monogrammiert, datiert und betitelt. Von einer gewissen Kontemplation und Einsamkeit zeugen die Arbeiten von Adolf Jutz, der sich nach seinen Erlebnissen als Kriegsmaler im Ersten Weltkrieg 1924 in München niederließ. Bis zu seinem Ausstellungsverbot, das ihm durch die Reichskunstkammer 1937 erteilt wurde, partizipierte er an einigen größeren Ausstellungen. Stilistisch sowie zeitlich scheint das Gemälde "Hortensie", wenngleich unbewusst, eine gewisse Nähe zur Neuen Sachlichkeit aufzuweisen.
