    Yi Kai, Framed Oil on Canvas of Lilies

    Yi Kai (China b.1955), framed oil on canvas of lilies, signed lower left. Yi Kai was born in China and fled after the 1989 Tiananmen Square incident. He originally settled in Minneapolis where he devoted his efforts to reinventing himself as an artist. In China, he had been an art professor at a Beijing university. He has eagerly embraced the cultural heritage of his new country and fuses Chinese symbols with those of American flags, English words, and other symbols of Western culture. Many of his paintings are large scale with the canvas divided into broad bands of alternating color. Examples of his work are in many US corporate and museum collections. 40 1/4" high, 50 1/4" wide; sight size: 29 1/4" high, 39" wide.
