Spider Kalbybidi Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1928 - d. 2008

Spider Kalbybidi was born near the Canning Stock Route at Unjada and was initiated into manhood at Naru. He walked in from the desert near Well 33 to Bidyadanga in the late 1960s with other members of the Yulparija people whose land was threatened by severe drought. Spider was a senior lawman from the Western Desert. His full sister is artist Alma (Kalaju) Webou, and Weaver Jack, another fellow artist, calls him Brother.

Spider was highly respected among his people for his wide knowledge of bush culture. Sadly, Spider passed away in 2008. He is sadly missed.

Spider is represented by Short Street Gallery, Broome.
