MY ARTWORKS ARE BASED ON INVESTIGATIONS INTO MATHEMATICAL FORM CONCERNING THE ARRANGEMENT OF UNITS IN SPACE. CUBIC PACKING, FRACTALS, TESSELATIONS,SYMMETRY AND GROWTH PATTERNS ARE SOME OF THE IDEAS I HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH.

THESE WORKS WERE DEVELOPED OVER LONG PERIODS OF TIME USING THESE MATHEMATICAL CONCEPTS AND OTHERS OF MY OWN DEVICE. THE MAIN STRUGGLE IS TO GET THEM TO "WORK" IN THE OLD FASHIONED SENSE OF BEAUTY, HARMONY AND FINISH (OR LACK OF).

THE PAINTINGS AND STRUCTURES ARE SOMETIMES BASED ON RIGID SYSTEMS AND IT OFT FEELS AS IF THEY ARE CREATING THEMSELVES AS NATURAL PHENOMENA FROM LOGICAL SEQUENCE.

THIS APPROACH HAS ENTAILED DIFFICULTIES WITH THE BALANCE BETWEEN RESEARCH, EXPERIMENT AND ART.

OF PRIME IMPORTANCE IN THESE WORKS IS THE NECESSITY FOR THERE TO BE NUMEROUS ELEMENTS IN ORDER TO CONVERY THE DESIRED INFORMATION. AN EXAMPLE IS THE NUMBER SEQUENCE 1,1,2,3,5,.....IN WHICH A CERTAIN NUMBER OF STEPS ARE REQUIRED; OTHERWISE DIFFERENT INTERPRETATIONS AND SEQUENCES ARE MADE AVAILABLE.

AN ASPECT OF THIS WORK IS THAT THRU SCRUTINY AND CONTEMPLATION THEY ARE ABLE TO BE UNRAVELED AND THEIR UNDERLYING ORDER AND BEAUTY REVEALED...........

SO MUCH FOR MY OFFICIAL STATEMENT ABOUT MY MATHEMATICAL/ARTISTIC IDEAS; WHICH HAS MORE TO DO WITH THE WORK I DID IN THE 1970'S AND EIGHTIES; THOUGH STILL RELEVANT AS I CONTINUE TO WORK ON PAINTINGS AND SCULPTURES; THE NEW MATH/ART.
