William Sr Kalwick (1933 - 1991) "Relics" Oil on Board. William Kalwick trained at the Art Students League in New York and then had extensive lessons from Lajos Markos, a well-known Hungarian painter. He worked as an illustrator in New York and New Jersey and later was art director for RCA, followed by a seventeen-year art teaching career on the East Coast. In 1985, captivated by the Southwest, he moved with his family to Prescott, Arizona, where he devoted himself to painting the desert and mountain landscape. There he quickly gained acceptance as an artist, and exhibited with NAWA, the National Association of Western Artists, which elected him to membership after his death from cancer in 1991 at age 55. His son, William Kalwick, Jr., became a well-known painter of Latin American figure and genre. Artist: William J.
