Lois Kapr was born in 1922 as the son of a Prague artist, who emigrated to the Netherlands in 1922. His father was a graphic artist and a painter. At the age of 12, he received lessons from the painter Hendrik Adriaan van der Wal (1882-1963), who painted large cityscapes in an impressionistic style. Lois Kapr was also a student of Paul van der Ven (1892-1972) – landscapes and cityscapes – and of the fine art painter Hendrikus IJkelenstam (1897-1993).
