(1810 Amsterdam - 1896 Biebrich) Altholländische Stadtansicht Kabinettbild mit sommerlich gestimmter Vedute. Karsen erhielt seine künstlerische Ausbildung an der Amsterdamer Akademie (1825-1827), überdies bei seinem Onkel Pieter George Westenberg und Hendrik Gerrit ten Cate. 1836 wurde er Mitglied der Akademie, danach reiste er durch Westfalen, an den Rhein und öfters nach Prag. Karsen, der die meiste Zeit in Amsterdam lebte und arbeitete, nahm 1830-1885 an Ausstellungen in Amsterdam und Den Haag teil. Öl/Eichenholztafel. L. u. sign.; 22 cm x 19,5 cm. Rahmen. Oil on oak panel. Signed.

ANSICHT ÜBER PASSAU AN DER DONAU UND AM INN Öl auf Leinwand. 56,5 x 100 cm. Rechts von der Mitte in Rot signiert. Verso bezeichnet „La vie de Passau situé sur le Danube et sur l'Inn K. Karsen a Amsterdam“. In bronziertem, ornamental verziertem Rahmen. Provenienz: Deutscher Privatbesitz. Anmerkung: Kasparus Karsen lernte bei seinem Onkel, dem Stadt- und Landschaftsmaler George Pieter Westenberg (1791-1873) und hernach an der Akademie, etwa bei dem Maler Hendrick Gerrit ten Kate (1803-1856). Er war auf Stadt- und Flussansichten spezialisiert, meist waren dies jedoch keine typografischen Ansichten, sondern Fantasiebilder mit Cappriccios. Er bereiste die Bretagne, den Rhein und die Donau und gelangte bis nach Wien. Neben den Städten finden sich auch Brücken und Kaie mit Segelbooten in seinen Werken wiede Ausstellung: Vermutlich ausgestellt in Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten, Tonstelling van Srilda en andere Werken van levende Kunstenas, Amsterdam. (Amsterdam 1810 - Biebrich am Rhein 1896) View of Prague with the Charles Bridge over the Vltava Signed l.r. Oil on canvas, 29.1 x 46.2 cm N.B. I: Karsen made many trips to Prague and was active there from 1838 to 1896. The Charles Bridge connects the Old City with the district of Malá Strana and constituted the main connection between the Old City and Prague Castle. The bridge is some 516 meters long, nearly 10 meters wide, and is constructed of 16 arches with ice breakers. On this bridge are placed 30 Baroque statues, dating from circa 1700. The exclusively pedestrian bridge is one of Prague's main tourist attractions. N.B. II: Comparable works by Karsen of the Charles Bridge are in the collection of the Rijksmuseum te Amsterdam.
