      1911 Paul Kaspar (1891-1953, Austria) Signed and Dated Original Watercolor [Am Hof Square, Vienna, Austria]. Measures 8 x 4.5 inches (20 x 11.5 cm). Unframed, mounted on semi-rigid thin cardstock. Provenance: Estate collection of William Greenbaum, Gloucester, Massachusetts, Proprietor of William Greenbaum Fine Prints. If lot is absent of a condition report one may be requested via email. Condition report is provided as an opinion only and is no guarantee as grading can be subjective. Buyer must view photographs or scans to assist in determining condition and ask further questions if so desired. Our in-house shipping department will gladly pack and ship any item that fits into a 14x14x14 inch or 30x5x24 inch or equivalent or smaller box/folio if it is not fragile or over 25lbs. We will charge for labor to pack and process based on actual time it takes, actual cost of materials used to pack and actual shipper charges that will include insurance and signature required. The mountain top of the Kepa is dominating the scene, some houses and boathouses are lining the wooded lake. The lake and the mountain are presented in their full splendor in loose execution. The watercolor is monogrammed lower right in pencil, in the margin are hand-written notes in pencil and it is signed verso on the mat in brown ink ‘P. Kaspar’. It presents with a light brushstroke a summery, bright and fresh bouquet of wildflowers in a bulbous vase. At the lower right the work is monogrammed and dated in pencil ‘PK 5/6 1944’. It is in a good condition with minimal signs of age and wear. In places the sheet shows slight creasing marks and the lower edge has a tiny crack of around 0.4 cm. The frame is heavily chipped. The watercolors show two views of Sievering in Austria. Both images illustrate a rural idyll in atmospheric colors. No. 10 shows a calm farmstead with a sealed gate half hidden by leaf tendrils. On no. 11 buildings lining a quiet village street can be seen. The drawings are in good condition. Both are slightly mat-stained, the colors are a bit faded. The sheets are mounted under a mat. The sheets are numbered 10 and 11. No. 10 is monogrammed on the lower right ‘PK’ as well as inscribed and dated in pencil ‘Sievering [19] 49’ (covered by the mat). The watercolors measure, including the frame 42.2 x 35.8 cm. The dimensions of the sheets are 29.9 x 23.2 cm and 30.2 x 24.9cm. Depicted is market day, with stalls selling flowers as seen on the left; cars and carriages cross the place in front of the fountain and busy passengers can be seen throughout. The watercolour is in good condition, with small stains due to humidity. It is signed and dated in the lower right 'Paul Kaspar 1925'. The frame is a bit damaged but still nice. The dimensions, framed, are 25 x 29 cm. Paul Kaspar (1891-1953) Paul Kaspar was born in Vienna in 1891. The academic painter belonged to a group of Austrian artists who carried on the traditions of the 19th Century. His works exhibit a love for detail and precise execution, however Kaspar always succeeded in capturing the moment and the mood of his subject matter, which he rendered in his own manner.
