      Est: €300 - €600

PAUL KASSECKER* (Villach 1903 - 1992 Aflenz Kurort) Kneeling Man mixed media/paper 48,3 x 30,1 cm signed Kassecker SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 300 - 600 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 300 Paul Kassecker was an Austrian landscape painter. His father Leopold was an officer of the k.k. private southern railway. Kassecker acquired the basics of his artistic training at the arts and crafts school in Graz from 1922 to 1926, after which he moved to the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he received the Academy Prize and the Golden Füger Medal in 1929 and the State Prize in 1930. After his training, Kassecker lived in Graz. There he took part in exhibitions and received other awards. During the Second World War, from 1939 to 1945, he was a war painter and press illustrator for a news unit in, among other places, Lapland. In 1934 he chose Aflenz Kurort as his permanent residence, where he was able to combine his artistic activity with his enthusiasm for prayer and winter sports. His main sculptural work is the monument “When I was still the forest farmer's boy” created in 1937 in honour of the Styrian writer Peter Rosegger in the Rosegger Park in Krieglach. Kassecker mostly found his motifs in the mountains of Hochschwab. Initially he was based on Albin Egger-Lienz and Alfons Walde, but since the 1950s he has also experimented with the possibilities of abstract image design. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
