Bernd Kastenholz Art for Sale at Auction

Painter, b. 1949 -

Bernd Kastenholz (born April 18, 1949 in Speyer ) is a German painter and graphic artist .

Kastenholz grew up in Haßloch and attended from 1964 to 1967 the master craftsman's school in Kaiserslautern (painter's apprenticeship). He then moved from 1967 to 1969 at the State Werkkunstschule Mainz and studied the subjects of graphics and design. From 1969 to 1973 he studied graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart with Walter Brudi .

Between 1970 and 1986, Kastenholz dealt mainly with the graphic techniques of the Strichätzung and the Aquatinta , whereby he preferably elaborated the black-and-white prints made. As motives served him social outsiders such as jugglers, dancers, harlequins and bänkelsänger, which he exaggerated folkloristic in idiosyncratic color and expressive stroke. In later years, he continued his imagery in three-dimensional form. Kastenholz 'sculptures consist of numerous, color-coated, galvanized steel sheets, which he combines - not without subtle humor - to form figurative objects.

Kastenholz is a member of the Palatine Secession . He lives and works since 1972 as a freelance painter in Gleisweiler . He was awarded the Förderpreis der Pfälzer Kunstfreunde (1973), the Pfalzpreis für Bildende Kunst (1976) and the Hans Purrmann Prize for Painting (1980).
