Massimo Kaufmann (Born in Milan in 1963) lives and works between New York and Milan.

Active Since the end of the ' 80 in that generation of artists born after the 1960 that is imposed on the Italian scene after the experiences of Arte Povera and Transavanguardia.Il work is placed from the beginning in that ' Emerging Scene ' documented by the Museum Pecci of Prato in 1990, in which a new generation emerged outside the ideologies that characterized the past years, crosses the most diverse mediums, from installation to painting, from photography to video. In Those years he exhibited in numerous Italian galleries: Studio Guenzani and Studio Marconi in Milan, Lia Rumma in Naples, Galleria Emilio Mazzoli in Modena, Gianenzo Sperone in Rome. It is in 1990 at the Pecci Museum in Prato, at the Pac in Milan and at the Galleria d'arte Moderna in Bologna, museums where his works are acquired.

In later years some of his works are acquired by The following museums: In Paris (Fondation Cartier), Berlin, Martin Gropius Bau (Metropolis) Amsterdam (De Appel) Vienna (Palais Lichtenstein, Ludwig Foundation) and in New York (Sperone-Westwater, Bronx Musem), in Phoenix, Nice (Musee d'art Contemporaine) Rome National Gallery of Modern Art, (Quadrennial 1996 and 2005, National Gallery of Modern Art), Milan (PAC, Triennale, Palazzo Reale Collection), and in the museums of Graz, Sarajevo, Tel Aviv. He Publishes numerous articles and essays on contemporary art. (Rediscovering the Silence, Baldini Castoldi Dalai Ed. 2004).

In the Biennium 2006-07 he teaches at the Academies of Bergamo and Brescia. From 2010 He collaborates with the Accademia di Brera in Milan where he plays seminars on contemporary art.

In the last decade his work has focused on an abstract painting, in which the performative aspect plays a central role. The Color as an emotional vehicle, the painting practiced as a musical score, the temporal fabric as the bearer of artistic creation, are elements that in recent New York jobs unfold in an abstract re-reading of the urban landscape and Natural.

One of his works, The Golden Age, made in NY in 2008, was recently acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in Bologna (MaMBo).
