      Est: €2,880 - €3,600

Oil on canvas Germany, 1924 Paul Kauzmann (1874-1951) - German interior and church painter Signed and dated lower right 'Paul Kauzmann 1924' Dimensions: 81.5 x 68 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Germany Paul Kauzmann's interiors are bathed in light and impress by their wealth of detail; an interior view by the artist fetches up to €14,000 at international auctions Bright and friendly shines the sun through the window and illuminates the Biedermeier furnishing of an interior painted by Paul Kauzmann in 1924. The work demonstrates the artist's great attention to details as well as his wish to bring the presence and spirit of the residents into his rooms. Here, for instance, a scarf is left behind on the seat cushion of the chair, as if it belongs to a lady who has just interrupted her reading and left her place for a moment. The painting is signed and dated lower right 'Paul Kauzmann 1924'. The paint surface shows larger areas of craquelure and minimal abrasions in the lower half of the depiction. The image measures 81.5 x 68 cm. The frame only shows small traces of age and use and measures 95 x 82 cm. Paul Kauzmann (1874-1951) Paul Kauzmann started to work as a maths teacher. In 1907, he decided to quit in favor of a second career as a painter. He studied at the Art Academy in Stuttgart and received private lessons from artists such as Hermann Groeber (1865-1935) in Munich. He later became a student of Bernhard Buttersack (1858-1935), who was a representative of the Munich School. Kauzmann specialized in interior painting and repeatedly exhibited at the Glaspalast in Munich. (cbo) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
