        KEEPING CHARLES: (1924-1988) English Illustrator & Writer associated with Children's literature. A fine original black pen and ink illustration drawn and signed by Keeping on an 8vo sheet, n.p., 1984. The detailed illustration depicts a young man lying asleep on the back of a large elephant who stands in a river with a moonlit jungle in the background. Signed ('Charles Keeping') at the base of the drawing and dated 1984 in his hand. Neatly mounted to a small 4to sheet of art board bearing various labels and annotations to the verso indicating that Keeping's illustration was used in an edition of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and other Animal Stories by Rudyard Kipling, published by Macmillan in 1984. Keeping was an illustrator and children's book author best known for his illustrations for Rosemary Sutcliff's historical children's novels, and for the complete works of Charles Dickens for the Folio Society.
