A Page of Braille Owned by Helen Keller

            Est: $500 - $600

A Page of Braille Owned by Helen Keller Typed page of Braille, 9” x 11”, on a tan card. Two lines, most probably a retained copy typed by Helen Keller on a Braille typewriter to be typed on paper by her secretary.  Braille characters are small rectangular blocks called cells that contain tiny palpable bumps called raised dots.“#4” in Braille in the upper right. Helen Keller lived in Arcan Ridge, 163 Redding Road, Easton, Connecticut, from 1939 until her death in 1968. Provenance in part: Letter dated February 15, 2001 (copy included). “I grew up as a child in the home of Helen Keller, which was sold to my father...after Ms. Keller’s death in 1968. The house where I and undoubtedly Ms. Keller had fond memories was located at 163 Redding Road in Easton, Connecticut. When cleaning out the house we found several items including some three-dimensional relics such as a hatbox clearly identified as being Helen Kellers. Also found in the house was a large group of letters written in Braille that were owned by Ms. Keller and which I am on this day parting with. It is my hope that these letters are dispersed to collectors that appreciate what they represent and care for them for many years as did my family.” This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses. • A Helen Keller Letter
            Oct. 20, 2018

            A Helen Keller Letter

            Est: $500 - $750

KELLER, Helen Adams (1880-1968) was an American author, political activist, and lecturer. She was the first deaf-blind person to earn a bachelor of arts degree. The dramatic depictions of the play and film The Miracle Worker made widely known the story of how Keller's teacher, Anne Sullivan, broke through the isolation imposed by a near complete lack of language, allowing the girl to blossom as she learned to communicate. Her birthplace in West Tuscumbia, Alabama, is now a museum[1] and sponsors an annual "Helen Keller Day". Her birthday on June 27 is commemorated as Helen Keller Day in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania and was authorized at the federal level by presidential proclamation by President Jimmy Carter in 1980, the 100th anniversary of her birth. Typed Letter Signed “Helen Keller” 1pp. quarto, February 4, 1957, on her personal stationary, with great content pertaining to the current status of the blind and deaf population, it reads in small part: “... I am indeed happy to inform you that the American Foundation for the Blind now is expanding services of benefit to my 6,000 deaf-blind fellows. Heretofore, a few hundred found bright cases of help and understanding in scattered schools and agencies...” Fine condition.
