In Vienna, he worked until 1907 as a construction clerk, from 1908 as an engineer in the Imperial-Royal Dicasterial Building Directorate. In 1908, he was employed by the Ministry of Public Works; later he worked independently. In 1904, he became a member of the Hagenbund (president 1912 - 1917). Keller, who had already travelled to India in 1897, stayed in the USA from 1913 - 1915 as an exhibition architect. Further stays abroad took him to Spain from 1920 - 1925, among other places. He hired Walter Broßmann in his Austrian studio, who was an equal partner after Keller's return, from 1926 to 1932. From 1919 to 1920, Keller worked for the magazine "Wohnungskunst", in 1927 he was an expert at the Oberlandesgericht für Urheberrecht (Higher State Court for Copyright), and in 1928 he was a member of the examining committee for the authorization of a civil engineer for structural and civil engineering. May. 07, 2007

      POSTER: ALFRED KELLER (1875-1945) HAGENBUND.

      Est: $2,500 - $3,500

ALFRED KELLER (1875-1945) HAGENBUND. Circa 1905. 40x17 1/4 inches. Condition A-: minor losses and restoration along vertical and horizontal folds. Framed. The Hagenbund, officially known as the Kunstlerbund Hagen, was the third most important Austrian art group after the Secession and the Kunstlerhaus. Founded by Heinrich Leffler and Joseph Urban, the association also boasted such members as Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka. The group, named after Mr. Hagen, who ran the inn where they frequently met, was dissolved by the Nazi party in 1938. Less radical than the Seccessionists, the Hagenbund was far more open to artists, their only criteria being the quality of a work of art. We found no information on Keller, but his nearly abstract work, evocative of leaves on a tree or perhaps lanterns hanging from trees beneath a starry sky, is in the pure Viennese style.
