        Ceramic with olive green crazed lead glaze and polychrome paint Japan, 18th century Ogata Kenzan (尾形 乾山, 1663-1743) A square dish with low upright sides and gently rounde corners, hand-shaped, the base with straight square stand Covered inside and outside with an arrangement of Tachibana fruits (wild mandarines) in yellow, green and ornange outlined in black The underside also glazed and with the signatue 'Kenzan' in black ink With an inscribed and sealed wooden box Accompanied by the book by Hiraki Seiko, Korin to Kenzan, Tokyo Koetsu Kankokai 1956, where this dish is illustrated on page 163. Height: 5 cm, width: 20.5 cm Good condition Provenance: German private collection, acquired in Japan in the 1990s According to the appraisals on the box and lid, this square dish was made by Kenzan with a design by Korin. The written comment ist dated Bunsei 2 (1819) and is accompanied by an unidentified signature with monogram (kao) and six cinnabar red seals. When the publication on the two Ogata brothers, Korin and Kenzan, came out in 1956, this dish was thought to be lost due to the WW II destruction. It was quoted and reproduced (with an older image) as a typical work by Kenzan with a design of Korin. Condition: The plate is in a good condition with only slight signs of age and usual, slight manufacturing flaws. Partly small chips and craquelure. The height measures 5 cm and the width measures 20.5 cm. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
