      Attributed to John W Keppie (Scottish, 1862-1945) Waterfall in the Highlands signed lower left "J W Keppie" watercolour, unframed h:26 w:20 cm John Keppie (4 August 1862 – 28 April 1945) was a Glasgow architect and artist. From an early age he was a close friend of Edward Atkinson Hornel and would often bring in the New Year with him in Kirkcudbright. Within the architectural profession, he was closest to John Archibald Campbell, and Keppie is credited with training Charles Rennie MacKintosh.

Partner of the firm of Honeyman and Keppie. A design by one of his juniors, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, won the contract to build the Glasgow School of Art. At the time this painting was undertaken Mackintosh had become a full partner of the firm. Among the buildings designed by him are those of the Glasgow Herald Mitchell Street buildings and those of the Daily Record. His watercolours are particularly effective and show the influence of Arthur Melville
