        Kikuchi Hobun, 1862-1918, Kyoto painter, best known for his animal studies; HOBUN GAFU, "Hobun's Picture Book" (Kyoto: Tanaka Jihei, c. 1890) 9 3/8 x 6 1/2 in., traditional Japanese fukurotoji binding: blue cover with rose title label. Containing 12 double-page and 27 single-page illustrations of birds and other animals in muted colors (except for the title cut which is brightly printed, almost surimono quality).
