I grew up in Ohio where life was simple, family was central and values went to the core. As an adult, I appreciate it far more now than I did then, and often reflect on these memories of life so long ago.

While my subject matter and genre lie 180 degrees south from my conservative Catholic and midwestern upbringing, my days of riding horses, running through the fields until dark and catching lightening bugs as a kid has stayed in my heart. As an artist, I am insatiably curious, drawn to the unknown, amused by the oddities of the world and intrigued by the complexities of the human psyche. While my paintings express a creative and conceptual interpretation of the world, my deep-rooted love and respect for nature remains an inherent thread woven throughout each piece.


I have enjoyed working in many themes or series over the years, whether it is for a particular exhibition or if it is just to explore or delve deeper into a subject or genre. While my style has evolved over time, the combination of my academic and instinctual methods blends harmoniously. On one hand, I am nourished and inspired through research that may be required to gain an academic understanding of what I am about to paint. These studies might include a variety of subjects such as, anatomy, world history, ecology or even mythology. On the other hand, I am fed by the opposite--- innate intuition and raw passion. But, no matter what drives the inspiration, the process itself is what excites me every time: an undetermined path, challenges during the journey, or the mystery of the destination until I actually get there. I believe the magic of guided uncertainty becomes the soul of the piece during its creation. Its silent language speaks to the viewer in that mutual space of respect and kindred spiritedness that exists but cannot always be explained.
