1880s | technique: oil on canvas | 64 x 90 cm | signature: bottom left | note: Exhibited: 65th Vytvarne Hlinecko / Ladies with a palette, 2024 | framed Lot description Marie Louisa Kirschner was a Czech painter whose work was strongly influenced by the style of the Barbizon school, which she adopted during her stay in Paris. Her teacher Jules Dupre, an important representative of this school, awakened in her an interest in natural motifs and a realistic depiction of the landscape. In this painting, the emphasis on atmosphere and the subtle play of light and shadow, characteristic of barbizon, is evident. Both the composition and the color palette that Kirschner chose speak of the influence of Dupre, who was known for his ability to convey the melancholy and depth of landscapes through natural scenery.

The large monochrome glass vase blown into a mold is a collaboration between the design by Marie-Louise Kirschner and the glassworks by Johann Loetz Witwe in Klášterský Mlýn. The shaped ribbing of the vase is a typical feature that can be traced back to the artist's colleagues Josef Hoffmann, Leopold Bauer, and Adolf Beckert around 1905. The exceptionally timeless design of the works of the artist Marie Louise Kirschner is represented, for example, in the National Gallery, the Memorial of National Literature, and the West Bohemian Gallery in Pilsen.
