        PAUL NICHOLAS KITCHIN (VIRGINIA, 1954-2002) FOLK ART CAT PAINTING, oil on shaped panel, depicting a tuxedo cat sitting on a yellow tabletop, framed by red drapes and a pinstripe border, signed "PK" initials at the right, also signed "Paul N. Kitchin" to verso. Unframed with hanging wire to back. Fourth quarter 20th century. 29 1/2" x 24". Catalogue Note: Paul Kitchin trained and worked as a sign painter and gilder in England before moving to the United States. He settled first in California where he opened a furniture store selling handcrafted furnishings that he designed. He first began painting pictures for his store and was encouraged to become a full-time artist. Later, he relocated to New Orleans, where his major project was the interior restoration of the Latter Memorial Library. He eventually moved to Lynchburg, where he continued to paint primitive pictures, as well as performing faux finishes, gilding, and similar work. He supplied paintings to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and was responsible for restoring several historic properties in Lynchburg.
