He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and the general painting school of Delug and Jettmar. From 1920 to 1938, he was a member of the Vienna Secession and then of the Vienna Künstlerhaus. He went on numerous study trips to Holland, Sweden and Italy. From 1914 to 1916, and again from 1928, he worked as a teacher and a inspector for art education.
