William Knapp (1862-1934) American Oil on Canvas

      Est: $400 - $800

1921 Colorado Landscape, (likely Estes Park). Oil on canvas, signed and dated lower left. Known for his paintings of still life and landscapes of Colorado scenery, William A. Knapp was born in Jefferson, Wisconsin. He showed a remarkable talent for art as a young boy, and went on to study at the Art Institute of Chicago, and privately in Boston and New York. After WWI, Knapp moved to Denver, Colorado where he maintained a studio. There he was appointed supervisor of the Federal Vocational Rehabilitation education in art, and he took great pride in sharing his rich knowledge with young students. Meanwhile, the artists' methods of painting conservation and restoration gave him a respectable reputation. After spending a number of years in the Denver area, Knapp became quite an authority on landscapes of the Rocky Mountains and in the summer would spend much of his time at Estes Park and Grand Lake. Size: 11 1/2 x 15 1/4 in. #1305
